Members and friends of the Fellowship frequently want to participate more in our community but aren't sure where they can contribute, who to contact, what's needed of them, etc. We have created this page just for that purpose, posting both opportunities and people in search of opportunities! Please contact us at if you are in need of help for your committee, event or activity, OR if you have talents / gifts to share but not sure where they are needed.
We are not holding in-person services at this time. Be a part of our hospitality! Coffee hosts (usually a team of 2) serve and clean up after Sunday service each week. Preparation is minimal, since coffee pots are already set up and the hosts only need to plug in the coffee urns. Hosts are asked to bring in a gallon of milk and some goodies to share. After service, the hosts bring out the urns, goodies, cups, and other supplies. Cleanup involves running the cups through the dishwasher and putting supplies away. We collect nonperishable food items and toiletries in the basket in our Fellowship lobby. You can join the list of volunteers who periodically empty the basket and deliver the items to the Our Daily Bread food pantry in Setauket or to The Ministries food pantry in Coram.
A team of volunteers from our Fellowship serves lunch to needy community members on the second Sunday of each month. A team of 6 UUFSB volunteers cook, serve, and clean up after the meal at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Port Jefferson. It involves a time commitment from 12 noon to about 2:00 p.m. for the volunteers. Since we started participating in the program at the start of 2010, we've had about 20 different volunteers working at the meals. We would love to have you join that list, even if you can only participate on an occasional basis. Please e-mail John or Lori if you are interested.

MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE Contact: Linda Volkersz
Chairperson + 5 members and two other teams Has responsibility for greeting newcomers and visitors to the Fellowship after Zoom services and providing information to them of UUFSB services, activities and programs. During the pandemic, the Committee keeps in touch with members who are isolated. In the future, we will work with the Minister to arrange UU Orientation Seminars and New Member Welcome Ceremonies.
Greeters and Ushers: At this time, Greeters stay after the Zoom service to greet newcomers. We are not having in-person services at this time. In the past, one team of Greeters would help at 10 am, with one person greeting once a month. Two teams of Ushers would help with the setup and clean up before and after services. Send out press releases, list Grounds and Sounds performances in online and print media, find other ways to build the audience for our monthly coffee house. Professional experience is not required.

Shoppers (2-3) Rotate checking for needed supplies (napkins, paper towels, cutlery, etc.) and purchasing them (with Fellowship money!)
1-2 hours per month
Cleaning Crew (3-4) Participate in semi-annual cleanup of kitchen, especially the major appliances.
4-6 hours once or twice a year
Launderers (2-3) Take home dish towels, cleaning cloths, and tablecloths, launder and return them.
1 hour twice a month
