New Interim Minister
The Rev. Barbara Coeyman (pronounced "kwee-man")
has accepted the call to serve as our interim minister
beginning this fall. Rev. Coeyman comes to us from First
Parish UU in Bridgewater, MA. (Incidentally, she knows
Eric Cherry, whose congregation is not far from there.
For those of you who did not know Eric when he grew up
in our congregation, Eric is the son of Arlene and Lou
Cherry and now a UU minister outside Boston.) Rev. Coeyman
was ordained in March 2005 and was born in Bethlehem
- Pennsylvania, that is. She has had a varied career
as hospital and a Planned Parenthood chaplain, and was
a circuit preacher and ministerial consultant at a variety
of UU congregations in Texas, after moving there from
Pittsburgh in 1996 with her husband. She is now divorced
and has two children, Patrick who is a senior at the
University of Texas at Austin and Amanda, a sophomore
at the University of Massachusetts. In addition to a
Master of Divinity degree she also has a Ph.D. in musicology
from the City University of New York and was a tenured
faculty member in music at West Virginia University for
a number of years before moving to Texas. Reverend Coeyman
also has a Masters in Public Management from Carnegie
Mellon University in Pittsburgh. She has a strong interest
in shared ministry, UU history, lifespan religious education,
dance (she likes English country dancing), playing music
(violin, piano and organ), and outdoor activities (skiing,
hiking, and snowboarding,)
Reverend Coeyman will visit us sometime this summer. When we know the date, we will schedule some get-acquainted activities as did when Jim visited us last summer. We will announce these in the Unicorn, so be sure to read it each week.
