A Letter from Pastor Madelyn
[The Rev. Dr. Madelyn Campbell became our Interim Minister on August 15, 2022.]
Welcome! I'm so glad you've found me. You'll want to know a bit about me, about my preaching and teaching, and about how I understand the role of professional clergy in the church. I hope you'll find what you're looking for here, and if you don't, please ask.
It took me a while to answer the call to professional ministry - you might say I took the scenic route. Along the way I've been a family nurse practitioner,(MSN George Mason University, 1996) and a business analyst in economics. I'm a widow with nine children and nine grandchildren (so far). I'm a master biblical storyteller (the only Unitarian Universalist certified biblical storyteller - through the Academy for Biblical Storytelling). I completed a certificate in the arts and theology (with a concentration in drama and storytelling) from Wesley Theological Seminary in February, 2016. Wesley is also where I earned my M.Div. in 2014 and my D.Min. in 2022.
Working on my Doctor of Ministry degree in Cambridge, England, gave me the opportunity to learn from an international faculty and to study with an international and multi-denominational cohort of students. This has been invaluable to my ministry.
I am currently an Accredited Interim Minister In Training (AIMIT) with the UUA. I've completed all the requirements to become an Accredited Interim Minister and expect to move into that status shortly. I've spent eight years in transitional ministries.
The world is full of possibilities. I think it's important to look at what we want to do and then figure out ways to do it. Sometimes that means trying things that don't work. That's OK. There would be no innovation without a few failures.
I'm a huge Doctor Who fan, I love Firefly and The Expanse, and all manner of whodunnits. I'm also a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Yes, I have preached on superheroes more than once.
